Writing vs. Blogging (Part 1)

I noticed recently that ever since we started blogging, my students (senior elementary) want to put everything they write on their blogs. Today, they were working on an in-class assignment and at the end of the period most of them proceeded to upload their responses to their blogs even though they had not received any instructions to do so. I was completely taken aback. Only a few months ago, they would have printed their work or at least asked what to do with it. Today, they proceeded to update their blogs with their latest work and were disappointed to learn that they needed to print and submit their work. It was also a very encouraging moment because I realized that they are beginning to perceive our class blogosphere as a community. They know that contributing to one's blog is now almost synonymous with starting (or continuing) an online discussion.
